Innovative Farmers at Groundswell 2026

Regenerative grazing working for dairy

Join us to discuss how we can make regenerative grazing work for dairy. Chaired by Kate Still, coordinator for the Tall Grass Grazing field lab, and joined by trialist farmers Tom Gregory, Matthew Senior, Dan Gammon and Senior Farm Advisor at Farm Carbon Toolkit, Rob Purdew. We will hear from the farmers experience, question how they have been adapting their systems and see the impact from the soil and forage data collected as part of the trial.

In a recent Innovative Farmers trial, dairy farmers tested taller grass grazing in commercial systems, showing that cows can be well fed and milked while soil biology, structure and forage quality all improve simultaneously, extending the grazing season.

This discussion session is aimed at dairy farmers looking for practical, proven grazing approaches that deliver for cows, soils and the bottom line.

10-10.45am, Wednesday 1st July in the Grass Tent.

One Bale at a Time: Bale Grazing, Economics and Soil Change

An update from the Bale Grazing field lab this session grounds Bale Grazing in numbers, outcomes and lived experience. Using detailed farm case studies, we’ll explore how bale grazing affects finance, labour, soil health and resilience over time. We’ll walk through the economics - costs, savings and risk - alongside visual and chemical evidence of soil and pasture change. The storytelling focuses on incremental transformation: how small decisions, repeated consistently, reshape both land and business.

1:00PM - 1:55PM, Wednesday 1st July in the PFL Tent.

Innovative Farmers Network meet up

Join us in the Soil Association Tent on Wednesday, 1st July between 12.45-1.30pm for an informal catch up with the Innovative Farmers Network. Pop in for 5 minutes or the full hour, we'd love to see you!

Learning Network meet ups

We will be hosting member only meet ups for the Trees for Livestock Health and Non Chemical Bracken Management Learning Networks.

Non Chemical Bracken Management: 4-4.30pm in The Snug

Trees for Livestock Health: 4.30-5pm in The Snug

Integrated Pest Management Learning Network

Join us from 10-11am on Wednesday, 1st July in The Snug to talk all things integrated pest management. Joined by vet Chris Aukland and Innovative Farmers trialists, we'll discuss the staged approach to risk management, the decision tree developed from the Flystrike Field Lab, and plans for the newly launched Integrated Pest Management Learning Network. There will be plenty of opportunity to share experiences and learn from others through open discussion.
