Join us on Fri 11th October for a visit to Abbey Home Farm near Cirencester, where head grower Andy Dibben has some small-scale trials of a strip tillage system with a living mulch to build fertility and improve soil health. Veg growing, particularly in field-scale organic systems, traditionally uses fertility building leys, long rotations, annual ploughing between crops and intensive cultivation of the soil. Is a strip-tillage system using cover crops or living mulches a viable alternative?
We will also hear from experts on soil conservation and how to make management decisions specific to your growing conditions.
Whilst the field lab trials focus on field-scale system, this event will also be suitable for small-scale producers, so all growers are welcome.
The event is free to attend and a delicious organic lunch will be provided by Abbey Home Farm Café.
