Join UK Grain Lab for a day exploring the connections between regenerative organic farming, local food systems and human health.
The morning will begin with a discussion and farm walk around Fraser Farms, exploring regenerative and organic farming practices such as silvo-arable agroforestry, clover living mulches and bi-cropping. We'll visit the farm's new grain cleaning and handling facility to see how infrastructure can help support local grain supply chains. We'll discuss the challenges and opportunities of separating bi-crops, cleaning grain for milling, and producing high-quality farm-saved seed, as well as the role this infrastructure plays in creating shorter, more transparent supply chains for locally grown cereals.
After lunch, we'll turn our attention from the field to the plate by exploring the relationship between farming and human health. We'll examine the emerging evidence linking agricultural practices with the nutrient density of food and wider human health. We'll hear from Vitagri, a new organisation building the UK's first framework to measure, verify and reward nutrient-dense food production.
We'll also hear updates from the Yorkshire Grain Alliance, who are trialing and baking wheats best suited to Yorkshire's climate, and from the Fix Our Food commission, who are working to build collaborations to help transform Yorkshire's food system.
